Costas Lapavitsas debates Claire Fox

Liverpool Salon Host debate with Claire Fox and Costas Lapavitsas 12 Sept 2019

As if Liverpool isn't already daily, sufficiently dramatic enough, on Thursday 12th September, it hosts the former Syriza Greek MP and professor of Economics at SOAS, London, Costas Lapavitsas, and Claire Fox, director of the Institute of Ideas, committed left winger and Brexit MEP.  Join the two at a free event where they debate about what leaving the EU means for democracy and the transformation of British society.

What kind of Brexit do we want and need? Leavers of Liverpool and The Liverpool Salon invite you to join Claire Fox and Costas Lapavitsas to discuss what a democratic commitment to leaving the EU might mean for the future of British politics – and how best to achieve it. In a public debate that has been dominated by trade negotiations, Claire and Costas both emphasise the political dimensions of Brexit and defend popular sovereignty. They disagree, however, about the way the 2016 vote can be secured and then expressed in post-Brexit Britain. Is Brexit an end in itself or a means to an end, and what end? What role should political parties and Parliament have? Join this important debate that brings together two speakers who both challenge the dominant political narrative.

All welcome. Admission free. Collection on the night.

Claire Fox is a political commentator, director of the Academy of Ideas and Brexit Party MEP for the Northwest.

Costas Lapavitsas, Professor of Economics at SOAS, former Syriza MP in Greek Parliament and author of The Left Case Against the EU.
